KanAm Grund Group expands European value-add expertise

  • Manage to core and development opportunities are and will be in high demand in particular as a result of new ESG requirements
  • Strategic decision to expand the scope of services offered to the investor base
  • London-based Nathan Smith appointed Head of Development Management Europe (ex Germany)

KanAm Grund Group expands its range of services and offers the option of investing in project developments or carrying out comprehensive repositioning of its portfolio. In this way, KanAm Grund Group enables investors to achieve higher returns on their real estate investments despite the increase in real estate prices in recent years or to adapt existing properties to new ESG requirements. To ensure optimized market access to other European countries, the KanAm Grund Group is now also active in the field of development management from its new branch office in London. Project developments in Germany, in particular for the KanAm Grund German Development Fonds, will continue to be managed from the headquarters at OMNITURM in Frankfurt.

Nathan Smith is responsible for the operational and strategic development management of KanAm Grund Group’s properties in Continental Europe (ex Germany), the UK and Ireland. He is based in KanAm Grund Group’s new branch office in London. Nathan Smith has more than 15 years of development experience, joining KanAm Grund Group in March 2021 from Tishman & Speyer where he spent 5 years.

In the past year, KanAm Grund Group has already started implementing various value-add strategies in Europe; notably with King Square, Copenhagen - a prospective mixed-use repositioning project in a prime-Copenhagen location acquired in early-2020 - and 35 Rue Marbeuf in Paris - an office-conversion project just off the Champs-Élysées acquired in mid-2021. Meanwhile Nathan Smith continues to review existing portfolio assets for their value-add potential in various cities, including London, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Brussels; whilst KanAm Grund Group also continues to appraise new value-add opportunities for acquisition on behalf of both its fund and separate account mandates.

KanAm Grund Group had already expanded its product range in 2018 with the KanAm Grund German Development Fonds, a new type of fund that has since been used to invest successfully in project developments with a focus on Germany.
